Disclaimer

1. Overview

Dance Alive provides somatic movement, meditation, and leadership content through an online streaming platform. This Disclaimer explains the nature of that content and clarifies what Dance Alive's services are — and are not.

By using the Dance Alive streaming services, you acknowledge and agree to this Disclaimer in addition to our Terms of Service.

2. Not Medical or Mental-Health Advice

The information, classes, and content provided through Dance Alive are for general educational and informational purposes only. They are not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

Dance Alive's facilitators — including Mariane Karou, the founder of the method — are movement teachers and educators. They are not licensed physical therapists, physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, or mental-health professionals. Mariane Karou is a movement expert, master teacher, and somatic educator; her teaching reflects her training and personal experience and is offered as movement education, not as therapy or clinical care.

Always seek the advice of your physician or other qualified health provider with any questions you may have regarding a medical condition or mental-health concern. Never disregard professional medical advice or delay in seeking it because of something you have learned through Dance Alive.

If you think you may have a medical emergency, call your doctor or emergency services immediately.

3. Physical Participation and Assumption of Risk

Participating in the movement practices offered by Dance Alive involves inherent risks, including the risk of physical injury. By using the Services and participating in the practices, you voluntarily assume those risks.

Before beginning any practice, you should:

  • Consult your physician, particularly if you are pregnant, recovering from injury or surgery, have a cardiovascular condition, have joint or back issues, have neurological conditions, or have not exercised in a long time
  • Ensure you have adequate space and a safe practice environment (level flooring, no obstacles, sufficient ventilation)
  • Wear appropriate clothing and footwear
  • Stay hydrated and warm up gradually

During practice:

  • Listen to your body — modify, slow down, or stop if you feel pain, dizziness, shortness of breath, lightheadedness, chest discomfort, or any symptom that concerns you
  • Do not push through pain
  • Remember that no live facilitator is present to monitor or assist you
  • Take breaks as needed

If at any point you feel unwell, stop immediately and consult a medical professional.

4. Somatic Practice and Emotional Material

Somatic movement practices can surface unexpected emotional, psychological, or physical responses. Dance Alive content may evoke memories, sensations, or feelings that are uncomfortable. This is a known characteristic of body-based work and is generally normal — but it is not a substitute for trauma-informed clinical care.

If you have a history of trauma, dissociation, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress, or related conditions, please consult a qualified mental-health professional before engaging in somatic practice and consider working with a licensed therapist alongside any movement work. Dance Alive content is not designed to treat or diagnose any psychological condition.

If you experience overwhelming emotional or psychological symptoms during or after a practice, stop immediately and seek support from a qualified professional.

5. Not Legal or Financial Advice

The Services, including any leadership-development content offered by Dance Alive, are educational only and do not constitute legal, financial, business, accounting, or tax advice. Consult licensed professionals before making decisions in those domains.

6. No Guarantee of Results

Individual experiences with movement, meditation, and somatic practice vary. Dance Alive makes no representation or warranty that any specific result, benefit, outcome, or transformation will follow from your use of the Services. Testimonials and stories shared through the Services represent individual experiences and are not promises of similar results for you.

Any personalized content recommendations the Services show you are automated suggestions to aid discovery. They are not professional, medical, or therapeutic guidance, and are not an endorsement that the recommended content is suitable for your particular condition, ability, or circumstances. Use your own judgment, and consult a qualified professional where appropriate.

7. Third-Party Information

The Services may reference or link to third-party books, practitioners, research, or organizations. Dance Alive does not endorse, control, or assume responsibility for any third-party content, recommendations, or services.

8. Updates to This Disclaimer

We may update this Disclaimer from time to time. The version and effective date above reflect the most recent update.
