A Ride the Wave class with Tierra Karou on the art of giving and receiving feedback, opening August's theme of the responsive leader. You begin by welcoming yourself home into your own body, because receiving anything requires somewhere solid to receive it. The work moves to the hips and pelvis, where control and fear are commonly held, and where letting go a little at a time is what lets you meet input fluidly instead of bracing against it. Tierra then has you say out loud what you are already doing well — itself a form of feedback — before setting a direction for what you want more of. The second half builds the container. You breathe into the whole back body and hold space for your own sensation, then engage and strengthen through the back until you can feel that you have your own back, which is the base a real challenge can be met from rather than avoided. Every feeling that arises is treated as fuel rather than an obstacle. That power is then channelled through the whole body into gotta move, where touching a point on yourself and immediately moving with it trains the responsiveness the theme is named for: responsible, as Tierra puts it, is response-able.
